Weddings at Historic Lime Kiln Lighthouse

The San Juan Islands have everything you could wish for to enjoy your simply perfect wedding day.

This fully operational lighthouse, built in 1919 and located in Lime Kiln Point State Park, provides a beautiful and appropriate symbol of the new horizons ahead for the happy couple exchanging vows.

The Lighthouse Special Events Program is operated by Friends of Lime Kiln Society. Revenues generated from this program contribute to the maintenance and support of the lighthouse and the park.

  • When can I book?

    Please email the Executive Director to initially check your preferred date and time.  Also, include estimated party size, any additional questions about the program and a contact number for a follow up phone call.

  • Will you hold the dates?

    We can hold a date for 48 hours without a deposit. Thereafter, a deposit and signed contract are needed.

  • What is the minimum rental period?

    One hour for photo or recording sessions, two hours for weddings.

  • What does a FOLKS′ chaperone do?

    A FOLKS chaperone makes sure your rental goes smoothly. They unlock/lock the lighthouse and will help to direct guests to your event and to the restrooms.  There is no running water at the lighthouse, please no food or beverages inside the building!

  • What kind of parking arrangements are available?

    Two parking passes will be provided.  On the day of event, all cars must display the Washington State Discover Pass (annual pass $30 or one-day pass $10). If you have a large party, carpooling or arranging a shuttle service is best. The parking lot could be full during  peak/whale season.  Click here to purchase your Discover Pass online.

  • What permit(s) do I need for my event?

    You need a Special Activity Permit  which must be submitted to the Park Ranger 60 days prior to your event.  The current fee for this permit is $45. Note; this is not part of the rental fee. FOLKS will assist you in securing this Special Activity Permit. Download the permit and fill it out. Return the permit with your rental agreement. A Park Ranger will finalize the permit and return your copy once processed.

  • May other guests walk through the Park during our event?

    Yes.  The lighthouse will be reserved and not open to the public during your wedding. The rest of Park is open to the public at the time of your wedding.

  • Will tables and chairs be available?

    We have 25 white wooden chairs with padded seats, an arch, 8′ table and 10’x10′ tent available as add-ons for your rental duration.  There are also picnic tables located throughout the park available for public use as a first come first serve basis.

  • What kinds of decorations are permitted?

    The lighthouse is a historic building; no decorations can hang on the lighthouse itself. We do have a beautiful arch available for decorating (think flowers, signs, streamers). Bouquets & vases of flowers are allowed.  The release of birds or butterflies, throwing rice, confetti, flower petals or any other material is not allowed.  Bubbles are permitted.

  • Can we have amplified music?

    No, nothing outside in the open other than acoustical.  You may if contained to inside of the lighthouse.

  • May we use candles and heaters?

    No, since this is a natural forest, outdoor fires would be devastating and tragic.

  • What about access outside the rental timeframe?

    Can we or our vendors drop off, decorate, etc. early or pick up items later than our contracted rental period? No, all work must be done during the rental period.
