About the Summer Salmon Run

Want to help the Southern Residents, but don’t know where to start?

Join the 1st annual Summer Salmon Run! It’s not nearly as scary as it sounds and you can partake from anywhere in the world….

The Southern Resident orcas and the salmon they eat are both facing extinction and need our help and there are so many great organizations working to protect them that rely on donations to operate. That’s where you come in.

This campaign is a “do it yourself, your way, on your time” walk-a-thon. How it works: you choose an orca or salmon recovery organization that you want to support, create a fundraiser for that organization on Facebook (or the old fashioned phone-call way), and commit to running/jogging/walking one mile or kilometer per dollar donated throughout the summer.

Here are two examples of what you can do:

This event is what you want to make it; if you want to commit up to a certain distance over the summer or match every dollar, commit to whatever is doable for you. We have a list of organizations, but you can choose whatever organization you want. This event isn’t about promoting any specific group over another, it’s about raising awareness for the Southern Residents and supporting any group committed to their recovery (while helping our own physical health too).

Here is a list of suggested groups you can support. This list is not all-inclusive, so if there’s another group you wish to support, please do!
