Park Activities

People exploring rocky shoreline by the ocean on a clear day.

Low Tide Beachwalks

Join us for Low Tide Discovery Adventure! Meet up with one of our volunteer marine intertidal ecologists who will lead the group walk on the beach during low tide. You will be able to experience hands-on encounters with amazing teeny-tiny animals and plants.

An orca whale swims near the ocean surface with its tall dorsal fin above water.

Whale Observations

During the summer FOLKS naturalist and Center for Whale Research volunteers can be seen watching for and studying orca whales. They record information about habits, observe weight and other health markers, watch for babies, count the number of whales in a particular location and keep a watchful eye on boat activity near the whales. When these volunteers are in the park, they will happily answer your questions about our beloved local whales.

Lighthouse Tours

It’s such an amazing experience to climb up inside the Lime Kiln lighthouse. Counting the steps to the top, you can imagine the complex life and responsibilities of early lighthouse keepers. You’ll learn about the special tasks that surrounded keeping the first gas light burning. And, you will develop a deep appreciation for the role Lime Kiln Lighthouse played in shaping the San Juan Island Islands economy.
