FOLKS receives zero funding from Washington State Parks. Although, we are allowed to use the Parks resources so that, in turn, FOLKS is a resource for Washington State Parks, its visitors and the San Juan Island community. Our strength is in our partnerships, volunteers, and our “can do” spirit… come join the fun with TEAM FOLKS!

Volunteers receive benefits!
Volunteer energies are needed for ongoing park activities. We always need help with educational programs, special events and at the Interpretive Center; no experience is necessary, we will provide all the training necessary for your success.
Working as a volunteer enables you to receive a Discover Pass, cool logo tee shirts, jackets and fleece vests. You will be invited to the Annual Volunteer banquet and also on an Outer Island Adventure!

Interpretive Center/Gift Shop
FOLKS operates the Interpretive Center from May through September with a goal to provide assistance to visitors and generate funding for park projects.
Host Lighthouse Sunset Tours
On those special occasions when the whales are taking an evening swim past the park, there is no place more magical.
Become a Park Naturalist
Spend the afternoon at Whale Watch Point sharing your passion for whales and our beautiful park.
Join the Board of Directors
Apply your unique skills and talents to the growth of FOLKS! Are you a CPA or bookkeeper, an experienced fundraiser or grant writer? We need you!!

Lead a Low Tide Discovery Day
Have a passion for marine biology? Love poking around the rocks at low tide? FOLKS hosts beach walks during low tides to engage visitors in the discovery of our local marine ecosystem.
Interpretive Center Clean-up
Do you have a green thumb or passion for helping to improve the natural environment? Sometimes we tidy up the area around the Interpretive Center to enhance our natural environment.. Come help us tidy-up!
