Friends of Lime Kiln Society (FOLKS) was launched in the fall of 2011. FOLKS is an energetic group of Islander’s dedicated to providing an awe inspiring experience for Park visitors through support & development of educational programs and activities related to Lime Kiln Point State Park’s unique location, diverse ecosystems, and historic structures.
Lime Kiln Point State Park is one of the most beloved parks in the state and attracts visitors from all over the world. This Park’s precious 36 acres and shoreline contain examples of the Salish Sea ecosystem, a historic lighthouse and lime kiln, as well as premier shore side views of orca whales many days of the year. This microcosm of the Salish Sea serves as a spectacular educational platform with boundless opportunities for an interactive learning experience!
The Park needs all the help possible due to severe staff and budget cuts in recent years. FOLKS receives zero funding from Washington State Parks. Although, we are allowed to use the Parks resources so that, in turn, FOLKS is a resource for Washington State Parks, its visitors and the San Juan Island community. Our strength is in our partnerships, volunteers, and our “can do” spirit… come join the fun with TEAM FOLKS!
